7th Grade English SMART goal: During the 2011-2012 school year, the team will create "I CAN" statements for each unit before the unit begins.
8th Grade English SMART goal: Every term, we can create three formative assessments and analyze the data to determine student progress towards "I Can" statements; then, make changes to curriculum as needed. Also, this year, we will work on creating a curriculum map for the new 8th grade core.

    Family and Consumer Science
Use better questioning techniques to see if understanding is taking place. Ask a variety of questions and ask more often to see if the students "get it."

    Foods
My goal is in conjunction with the NSET #4, which includes communication with the parents/guardians of the students. The goal which I have chosen is to develop a web page for the Foods Classes at MJHS. I have set up a site at mrswoodfield@blogspot .com. On this site, I have included class topics, coming assignments and tests, class recipes, and study guides for tests. The recipes have been especially popular, since many parents have contacted me, wanting recipes of the foods we prepare in class. I am also in the process of getting a permission slip signed which would allow me to put pictures of the student on the website. The students enjoy seeing themselves on the site, and I would be careful not to label the pictures with their names. My goal is also to notify the parents, via e-mail, when updates have been made on the website, so they can be reminded that this resource is available. My deadline to have all of this set up and in place is January 1st. Of course, this will be an ongoing project, as events and recipes are added.

Each team is asked to write and update their SMART goal as it relates to our school mission and DRSLs. This can be done as a department or as individual subject level teams. A plan to collect data on progress toward the goal is also needed. Once a goal has been completed and/or become a regular routine in learning, a new goal should be developed.
School SMART Goal: During the 2011-12 school year, all teams will demonstrate progress quarterly on the 6 non-negotiables (norms, "I can" statements, curriculum maps, common formative assessments, data analysis, and SMART goals) using the 4.0 proficiency scale to assess progress.
    Comprehensive GuidanceCOMPREHENSIVE GUIDANCE SMART goal:
By September 28, counselors will identify students who may benefit from either a 7th grade friendship group or an 8th grade new student group. After an eight week course, progress/success of the groups will be measured by an exit assessment of all students involved. Adjustments will be made to groups as needed.

15 students are currently involved in the 8th grade new student group.
    CTE SMART goal:
    Technology
USOE has recently rewritten and revised the Standards and Objectives for the course Introduction to Manufacturing. Many CTE technology teachers have had poor performance on the end of level test. Many items on the end of level test were poorly worded. Support photos were ambiguous. Photograph size contributed to this ambiguity by communicating to the student an un-intended message. Standards and objectives on some test items were not aligned with Standards and objectives. The original(5 years ago)Standards and Objectives were far out of alignment with the summitive test. The draft of 2010-11 was much closer but not read by teachers as many assumed no change. The first iteration of the course was developed using five different textbooks. This expanded scope of references contributed to a lack of base line of specific content.
    1. Make the Standards and objectives changed to more effectively communicate the contenet of the course.
    2. Make the end of level test align with the Standards and objectives.
    3. As equipment and facilities do not support the broad spectrum of content in Introduction to Manufacturing; I will find content on the internet using ZamZar.com and frame it in a Power Point format.
    4. I will present these Power Point framed video to the students.
    5. I will provide formative evaluation of this content and evaluate.

    Reminders and Information
We remind you - please remember to step out into the halls during passing times. It helps in so many ways. Last week we mentioned it helps with tardiness, another benefit is safety. When you’re in the halls it helps students feel like there is an adult near keeping them safe. The same principle applies for before and after school hall duty. (see the yellow sheet from faculty meeting)
If you’re interested in supervising the dance on Thursday night we welcome you’re help and you even get a small stipend. See Robyn Card for more details or to volunteer.
FYI Friday is a contract day and your attendance is required. Last week an email was sent to the entire faculty from Gloria Nance. Please look over the location of your meeting and plan on attending where it indicates. If you have any questions just ask an administrator. Remember Lunch will be provided.
The PTA will be sponsoring a book fair in the MJHS Library from October 31 - November 4. The proceeds from the fair will go towards buying more books for the library.

    Thanks
To Theresa Carey for going above and beyond the call of duty to keep our school running smoothly and in the black. She’s always here early every morning and handles so many different responsibilities with professionalism and good humor.
